After two years of COVID-related restrictions, the annual plenary meeting of the ISO Technical Committee 258 “Project, Programme and Portfolio Management” was held in Philadelphia, USA, from September 18 to 22, 2023.

The committee, chaired by Donald Bower, a representative of the Project Management Institute (PMI), conducted its sessions in a hybrid format. The five-day program included plenary sessions as well as project group meetings.

This year, our colleagues Alexey Polkovnikov (CEO, STREAM4PM) and Oleg Tumasov (Editor-in-Chief, Project Management Journal) participated in the committee’s work.

Oleg Tumasov is a member of the working group developing the ISO standard “Guidelines for the Implementation of Management Based on the Earned Value Method.” The progress on this standard has been recognized as successful and is now approaching its final stage.

A new initiative is set to begin soon — the development of a standard proposed by the Chinese national standards organization (SAC) titled “Guidelines for Post-Investment Evaluation of Projects and Programs.”

In July 2023, the PM Foresight Project Management System released a major update to its Resource Management module.

The product team shared details on the new features designed to enhance planning, control, and tracking of project resources.

“After analyzing the system’s heatmap, we saw how to simplify and improve the user journey,” the team noted. “We optimized workflows at all user levels. For example, previously users had to open each task card separately — now, resources can be selected and assigned directly within the online Gantt Chart. This functionality remains available even if the Resource Management module is temporarily disabled.”

Alexey Polkovnikov, CEO STREAM4PM, took part in the 33rd IPMA World Congress and the IPMA Council of Delegates meeting, held in Cape Town on December 1, 2024.

During the Council of Delegates session, participants discussed key achievements and the strategic development of the International Project Management Association (IPMA).

Special attention was given to global collaboration, sustainable development, and the implementation of new project management standards.

Among the major highlights of the meeting:

• Admission of Israel and Saudi Arabia as new IPMA member associations
• Discussion on the opening of a new IPMA office in Dubai, which will host the IPMA Research Conference in 2025, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the project management profession
• Approval of new standards for sustainable project management, integrating ESG principles
